TORBAY EXPRESS The Past-Time Rail’s Torbay Express from Bristol to Kingswear and return is now becoming a regular summer Sunday event from the end of July to the beginning of September. During 2005, the main motive power was ex-GWR 4-6-0 6024 ‘King Edward I’. TE1 shows the first outward journey on 31st July at Wick (near Brent Knoll between Weston-Super-Mare and Highbridge). TE2 : 6024 is accelerating away from Newton Abbott at Aller on 31st July. The weather was much better on 7th August, and in TE3 6024 is viewed from Brent Knoll on the outward journey, with ‘Steep Holm’ and the South Wales coast clearly visible across the Bristol Channel. In TE4, 6024 is about to enter Whiteball Tunnel near the summit of the climb from Taunton on the outward journey of 7th August. TE5 shows the train departing from Paignton near the start of the return journey on 7th August. TE6 shows the return run on 7th August approaching Pound Farm near the start of the climb to Whiteball summit. 6024 catches the late evening sunlight as it crosses the Huntspill River between Bridgewater and Highbridge on 7th August (TE7 and TE8) On 14th August, 6024 has just breasted the summit at Whiteball on the outward journey (TE9). In TE10, 6024 is running along the Teign Estuary towards Newton Abbott at Bishopsteignton on 14th August. The return trip on 14th August has just passed Powderham Castle with the River Exe in the background (TE11) 6024 approaches the summit of Whiteball with the return trip of 14th August (TE12) viewed in the opposite direction from the same spot as TE9. |
