THE WELSH MARCHES EXPRESS On 13th May 2006, Past Time Rail organised a trip to get ex-GWR 4-6-0 6024 ‘King Edward I’ back from Bristol to its base at Tyseley, Birmingham. The route was via the Severn Tunnel, Hereford and Shrewsbury to Bescott. KE0609 : 6024 is seen climbing out of the Severn Tunnel passing an HST in the opposite direction the change of gradient is very noticeable. KE0610 : crossing over to the main line at Severn Tunnel Junction. KE0611 : in increasingly gloomy conditions, 6024 is nearing the summit of Llanvihangel Bank from Abergavenny on the way to Hereford. KE0612 : it was now raining steadily when 6024 is seen shortly after leaving Shrewbury on the final leg of its journey. |
